We compete throughout England and Wales against other troupes sometimes up to 16 troupes compete at a time. We also go to weekend championships which is great fun.
Onyx seniors are in the 1st division and we dance to try and win medals, trophies. Points are gained to win troupe of the year award and also Oldham troupe award.
October - March is when we make up our new routines for the carnival season which runs April - September
ONYX ANGELZ (Tots)
Aged 6 and under and are normally girls of dancing girls so they have dancing in there blood, most start as soon as they can walk and while still wearing nappies. They dance on the arena for no more than 7 minutes and the dance has very simple moves, all the tots dance in the same division. Mainly it gets them use to a big audience and working together as a team for when they move up in to the next section the tinies which is more competitive.
Aged 7 - 11 They dance on the arena for 8-9 minutes and the dance has very simple moves, 2007 will be the 1st year we have had a tiny team so they will compete in Div 2. Mainly it gets them use to a big audience and working together as a team and gets them use to kicks and tablo work.
Onyx dont have a junior team but this section is
11 - 16 years
ONYX (Seniors)
Open aged group, I normally take girls once they become a teenager and they finish when they are good and ready to hang there pumps up. The dance has to last between 13-14 minutes or points will be deducted. The seniors dance is a more intricate routine with high kicks, good movement around the arena, and at least 3 built up tablos, Dress must be uniform throughout the troupe although leader must stand out from the line.
